Historic Cook County presents Gentle Hikes of the North Shore author and photographer, Dr. Tornabene, as the next featured JHP artist
The Cook County Historical Society is delighted to present Ladona Tornabene, Ph.D., MCHES, as the next featured artist at the Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery. Dr. Tornabene, an Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Minnesota Duluth, specializes in the intersection and inseparability of art and health, with a particular focus on the health benefits of nature. She also co-authored Gentle Hikes of Minnesota's North Shore, a guidebook that provides detailed information on the accessibility of selected scenic trails (under three miles in length) between Duluth and the Canadian border. The book includes data on the number of steps, presence and type of handrails, incline steepness, and length, and trail surface and width. It also contains descriptions of 15 scenic walks less than one mile in length, 18 waysides and scenic locales, and 11 picnic sites. The guidebook further incorporates sections dedicated to information relevant to recreational vehicle travel and individuals with physical challenges.
Dr Tornabene’s exhibit, titled Gentle Hikes of Minnesota's North Shore Through the Lens of Arts and Health, will feature her photography which celebrates the beauty of hiking trails along the North Shore. The Johnson Heritage Post will host an opening reception on Friday, March 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibit will be on display from Saturday, March 29 through Sunday, April 20.
Additionally, she will be presenting with Gentle Hikes of Minnesota's North Shore co-author Lisa Vogelsang, Ph.D on Saturday, March 29 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m at the Johnson Heritage Post.
